Tigers to forfeit defense

How else can you explain the signing of Fielder?

Having Miggy playing at 3B and Prince at 1B should at least lead to some funny highlights but probably not to any web gems.
Of course on offense they might very well be the most lethal 3-4 combo in the league right now.
Poor pitching staff who'll likely see a rise in team (an individual) ERA.

Still I don't like the length of the deal. 9 years for $214 mio. is really a lot. Wonder if Fielder's body hold up until the end of the deal. Even when he an play full time DH 5 years down the road.

I think it's an awful contract, especially given that they'll have black holes defensively at 1B, 3B and LF (Young). They have a great lineup, but their team defense blows. Good thing Verlander can strike people out in bunches.

Yeah, I can't believe the signing. Horrible D. I just knew he was going to the Nats.

It’s their defense that sets them apart. They rank second in the league in opponents scoring average, allowing 61.9 points per game. That’s 4.5 points fewer than last season.
