Going to be interesting to see what happens. Can't he just retire and become a free agent?

No. Not unless the team releases him. If he retires and comes back, he'd still be Bengal property.

He's essentially saying "I don't want to play here, even if that means not playing at all."

Bit of a joke really, that team is so dysfunctional. I imagine he'll report and they may trade him mid-season. No way he's going to pass up the money he can make in the NFL vs. not.

Non-issue imo.

There are hardly ever any trades during the middle of the season. I think they may end up releasing him, but he isn't going to retire if he stays in Cincy.

He probably doesn't need the money, so he could hold up this promise if he wanted. Pretty low class thing to do though, go public, that might make him less desirable to other teams.

The guy is only what, 28? 30? He's made probably 30 mill in guarenteed money alone. I'm not saying he does or doesn't NEED it. I just don't see someone of his age, personality passing it up for nothing just because of a supposed grudge. Pretty sure he can play angry until the end of his contract and pick up another 20 mill or so. Who would say no just so they don't have to play in Cinci? I think he's just stirring the pot to see how much management/ownership are behind him and maybe light a fire to get some more talent for a playoff run.

Thank god cause we don't want you Palmer or your brother for that matter. You used to be good before you blew your knee out and now you just don't have it. You think you can put it in places you used to be able to but you can't. Your decision making is just awful. Some of your interceptions were just terrible. You overthrow your wide receivers more than any other quarterback in the league. Your pick 6s killed us this year. Thank you for giving us a decent draft pick now get the hell outta here.

Rant over.

Realistically, what's the most a team is going to offer for a now average quarterback that is declining? I know they want a first round pick and possibly more, but I can't see a team giving up that much and more for an average QB. Plus, they would have to pay him (a lot) whatever is left on his contract.
